Sad News to Share . . .

For many years, the Graceville Uniting Church congregation has been numerically declining and ageing, reaching a point where the sustainability of the congregation has been a serious issue. In late November 2021, a majority of the congregation decided through formal processes that it no longer has the capacity to maintain the church’s facilities and programs and the decision was made to close the church and discontinue the operations of the congregation. This decision was obviously taken in the midst of much sadness and grief.

From January 2022 the Rev Jan Whyte will commence a short supply ministry at Graceville Uniting to continue services and assist the congregation with the logistics of closure until a final worship service is conducted sometime in March.

Whilst the long-term future of the site will be determined by the Bremer Brisbane Presbytery in consultation with the Queensland Synod of the Uniting Church, in the immediate future, the Presbytery will assume responsibility for the care of the facilities, including managing the current rental agreements. Use of the facilities will be guaranteed to all our current tenants at least throughout 2022.

A point of past celebration for the congregation has been the opportunity to make its facilities available for use to the wider community. We thank the people of Graceville for whatever engagement you may have had with us. If you would like to join us to celebrate Christmas, the Christmas Eve Service will be at 7pm and Christmas Day at 8am. There will be no service on Sunday 26th December, but services will recommence on January 2.
